ABOUT THE PROJECT

KP House is a contemporary tropical residence set within the lush residential landscape of Nairobi. The home is conceived as a calm architectural composition that emerges gently from its surroundings, allowing landscape, light, and materiality to guide the experience of the space. Rather than presenting itself as a singular object, the house unfolds through a series of carefully positioned volumes and courtyards that establish a continuous relationship between interior and garden.

The architecture is grounded in a restrained palette of natural materials—timber, stone, textured plaster, and planting—allowing the home to feel both warm and enduring. These materials are used with clarity and precision, reinforcing a sense of calm throughout the spaces while ensuring the building sits comfortably within its verdant setting.

Courtyards play a central role in organizing the house. They puncture the plan at key moments, bringing daylight and ventilation deep into the interior while establishing framed views of landscape from nearly every room. These voids blur the boundary between inside and outside, ensuring that the surrounding greenery becomes an integral part of daily life within the home.

Large overhangs and carefully proportioned openings respond directly to Nairobi’s equatorial climate. Shaded terraces and verandas extend the living spaces outward, creating comfortable outdoor rooms that can be occupied throughout the day. In this way, the home embraces the principles of tropical living—spaces that remain open, breathable, and closely connected to nature.

Through its measured composition, careful use of materials, and strong relationship with landscape, KP House reflects a contemporary interpretation of Nairobi residential architecture—one that prioritizes light, climate, and the quiet presence of nature.
